An eco-friendly granary for storing agricultural produce to promote food security and help farmers improve their incomes and cope with climate change: Fawrou Remobe
In the north-east of the country, which is at the forefront of climate change and desert encroachment, lack of access to quality seeds and aggravated droughts are leading to lower crop productivity. In addition, all small farmers produce the same thing at the same time and have no storage facilities. This overproduction, with no possibility of storage, leads to huge losses or to sales at knock-down prices. This situation aggravates the food insecurity of small-scale producers and their families.
Entrepreneurs du Monde therefore initiated a project in 2018 to provide small farmers with efficient storage and financing solutions. These solutions allow farmers to store part of their production and resell it at the most favourable time.

The team builds simple, innovative and effective earthen granaries to keep crops dark and cool (28/32°), day and night. Small-scale farmers are trained in soil improvement, agro-ecology and management. The team monitors market prices and provides grouped transport of agricultural products. The small producers have access to microcredits to finance the agricultural campaigns and the storage of the harvested products.
The project is led by an Entrepreneurs du Monde team of Senegalese and French professionals and supported by financial (Monegasque Cooperation, EDF Foundation, etc.) and technical (CRAterre* and EdF) partners. In order to deploy and make this project viable, the team will create a social enterprise for storage and marketing and will thus contribute to strengthening this agricultural sector.
