Financing offer

The French Global Environment Facility (FFEM)

The French Global Environment Facility (FFEM)

It is France's specialized tool for environmental protection projects. Its vocation is to intervene primarily in innovative and demonstrative projects for which traditional financing channels are insufficient or unsuitable.

The FGEF funds projects in six areas: climate, biodiversity, international waters, land degradation, chemical pollutants and the stratospheric ozone layer.

Eligibility

The FGEF co-finances :

  • Pilot projects that contribute both to preserving the global environment and to the economic and social development of countries.
  • Projects in partnership with companies or local authorities

Africa accounts for 2/3 of FGEF activity.

Amount of subsidy

It varies according to the financing channels offered by the FGEF:

  • For "classic" projects: the FGEF grant ranges from €500,000 to €3 million and can represent up to 30% or even 50% of total project costs, subject to certain conditions;
  • The Small Initiatives Program (SIP): dedicated to African NGOs and managed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), it awards smaller grants of between a few thousand and tens of thousands of euros on the basis of calls for projects. Please refer to the PPI website for more information on this scheme.
