Action contre la Faim is a non-governmental organisation created in France in 1979. Private, non-political, non-denominational, non-profit, it was created to eradicate hunger through the prevention, detection and treatment of undernutrition, particularly during and after emergency situations linked to conflicts and natural disasters.
Today, Action contre la Faim is a major player in the fight against hunger in the world. Structured as an international network, Action contre la Faim carries out a coordinated response in nearly 50 countries. The priority of the organisation is to act concretely on the ground and to bear witness to the plight of the people.
In our work, we are committed to the following principles: transparency, neutrality, independence, professionalism, non-discrimination and free and direct access to victims.

What we can contribute

Product, service or intervention proposed

Because the causes of hunger are numerous and multiple, Action Against Hunger's response is multisectoral and relies on a strong expertise in 7 areas of intervention:
- Nutrition and health: for example, treatment of acute malnutrition in infants, young children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, etc.
- Food security and livelihoods: e.g. food aid, agricultural activities, income-generating activities in rural and urban areas, health monitoring etc.
- Water, sanitation and hygiene : e.g. improving people's access to safe drinking water, trucking treated water in crisis situations to more permanent sources, purifying contaminated water sources for safe use, installing water storage tanks and outdoor tanks, digging new or rehabilitating existing wells and boreholes, constructing and repairing water systems (mainly in urban areas), installing and improving irrigation systems, constructing livestock watering sites, hygiene education, latrines etc.
- Mental health and care practice: e.g. psycho-social interventions, strengthening family ties, parenting support etc.
- Gender and protection
- Advocacy: e.g. raising awareness of the importance of combating acute malnutrition and promoting its recognition as a major public health problem requiring more attention from decision-makers and funding, advocating for an integrated approach to combating malnutrition by asking states to include nutrition in their sectoral policies (agriculture, health etc.), advocating for humanitarian principles, calling for investments, mobilising the general public, bridging the knowledge gap, lobbying for change etc.
- Risk and disaster management: e.g. preparing people for unavoidable shocks in order to better adapt and mitigate their impacts etc.
- Research: e.g. identifying effective preventive approaches to undernutrition, identifying modalities for scaling up effective treatment to combat undernutrition, identifying tools for emergency response and preparedness, improving the quality of interventions through qualitative and quantitative studies, better understanding the causes of malnutrition etc.
