From garbage to luxury is an environmental education and development association that was created in Cape Verde but already had its first work on environmental projects in Brazil through the analysis of recycling activities existing in the urban context of Rio de Janeiro until 2009.
The garbage to luxery project focused on the African context through the creation of the association Do Lixo ao Luxo in the city of Praia, Cape Verde in 2012.
Cape Verde is an island country formed by ten volcanic islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Most of the existing products in Cape Verde are imported. In this context, the association decided to focus on waste management, to promote a sustainable management of the scarce resources that exist in the country and to make the best use of the materials brought by the import.
