Mouvement d'Appui pour la Promotion de la Famille, or MAPROFAM for short, is a non-profit development organization under Congolese law, headquartered in Mbanza-Ngungu in the province of Kongo Central. More than 50 volunteers work together to develop projects in the fields of (family) agriculture and processing, education/training, energy, basic health, the environment and community development. We believe that each and every one of these themes is essential to sustainable development. All this forms a whole for the well-being of the population who, to be masters of their own destiny, need to be trained, informed and active. This is the raison d'être of our education/training, culture and sports program, with the creation of a participative, inclusive and community-based nursery, primary and secondary school (AMIDA SCHOOL).

From an agricultural point of view, our basic principle is not to take more from the earth than we can return to it. Alternative farming methods, such as sustainable agriculture, are our priority and our philosophy in agricultural practice. Together with the farmers, gathered in small farmers' cooperatives (CPEA), through training and technical support, we cultivate, produce and process organic products with high nutritional and medicinal values, such as ginger, turmeric, moringa, Artemisia annua, lemongrass, Africa basil, soybeans, sweet potatoes, sesame, and so on. We also raise small livestock, fish and bees to support family economies and combat malnutrition, especially among children.

Our projects take a holistic approach and are rooted in local communities to ensure the relevance of the actions undertaken and their long-term viability.
As an integral part of the peasant dynamic, we invest in people in relation to their immediate environment, starting with the earth, our mother and provider.

MAPROFAM works in full collaboration with local communities and all the authorities in its areas of intervention. It is a partner of the associations and platforms AMIDA (France/Aurillac), IDAY-RDC, SANKAA (Belgium), MAPROFAM vzw (Belgium), BYB, FAPDIK, BERCO, UPEC and the IDAY-International coalition, whose members have acquired experience in community development, environmental protection, formal and informal education, family farming and livestock breeding, gender, basic health, etc.

Our expectations/interest in creating a partnership

We need partners who are willing to collaborate with us and support us in strengthening and developing these activities in order to meet the needs of the local community: social and economic infrastructures, technical training, materials and equipment, agricultural credits, subsidies... Because the socio-economic and political crisis that the DR Congo is going through has led to the dilapidation of the economic and social fabric, the obsolescence and dilapidation of infrastructures, the emergence and recrudescence of old and new diseases, the plundering of resources and the destruction of ecosystems and many other constraints, leading to a deterioration in the living conditions of the populations.

Contributions we are looking for from the future partner

  • Means/opportunities Financial
