Opening of an agroecology training centre for women in the commune of Palmarin
ALPADEF is working on setting up an agroecology training centre and a women's cooperative in Palmarin, Senegal. The aim is to promote new economic opportunities for the women of the region while enabling fair and equitable local development. We also want to advance the capacity of local women to establish and associate themselves within the framework of citizen organisations, through the women's cooperative, in order to achieve greater autonomy and economic and social integration.
This is achieved through the development of the agricultural sector and techniques adapted to the crops and environment of the region, in order to guarantee food security and improve the socio-economic situation of the village. The project is designed to be integrated into the local economic and social fabric in order to develop in a sustainable manner with local partners, while respecting the long-term management of the region's natural resources.
The training centre is adjacent to a solidarity tourism camp rehabilitated by ALPADEF and its partners. In the long term, the objective is to finance the training centre autonomously thanks to the resources generated by the cooperative and by the tourist camp (30% of the profits).
The aim of this project is therefore to empower the entire female population thanks to low-cost agricultural techniques that can do without outside help.
