PRIZ - ZANZAN RICE PROGRAM

1. Supporting context

AREOS is a not-for-profit organization that provides training and technical support (material and moral) to associations in general, and agricultural associations in particular, for the proper management of arable land and agricultural development.

AREOS has made a number of observations in the Zanzan district, particularly in the Gontougo region:

• 90% of the Zanzan population consume rice.
• Rice cultivation is virtually non-existent in these regions.
• The Gontougo region (the departments of Tanda, Koun-Fao and Transua) has more low-lying areas and well-watered soils with an average annual rainfall of around 850.8mm/year and a temperature of 26.^4o C, making it ideal for growing rice.

• Rice milling and perfuming in small-scale processing units
