Project in progress

Project to promote sustainable WASH services in rural areas of the Kolda and Sédhiou regions through innovative financing mechanisms for youth, women and people living with disabilities.

Getting in touch

The proposed action is a 36-month project that will be implemented in synergy with CASADES' projects in the field of Water-Hygiene-Sanitation already underway in the regions of Kolda and Sédhiou by proposing an innovative system of access to sanitation via a public-private partnership and the development of sanitation credits. The objective of the action will be to contribute to the improvement of the living environment of the populations through sustainable access to quality WASH services in 100 villages in these regions. Since April 2009, CASADES has integrated a new strategic axis, Water, Hygiene and Sanitation, into its strategy. CASADES has also worked to address the particular needs of these regions through the implementation of the TACP to support actions to improve the quality of life in the targeted areas and which take into account the issue of gender equality, among other things through the implementation of innovative financing approaches.

CASADES and its local partners such as women's networks (RSA, COFEPAD, MINEN KALAA) have also worked to address the particular needs of the regions of Kolda and Sédhiou through the implementation of the ATPC to support actions to improve the quality of life in the targeted areas and which take into account the issue of gender equality, among other things through the implementation of innovative financing approaches. Thus, the expertise of the two partners has made it possible to build 2,225 improved latrines in 150 villages, 600 safe water points, 2,000 hand-washing devices with soap, to organise 1,185 talks and 12,446 people reached on hygiene promotion. The action will be carried out in close collaboration with key actors, notably grassroots groups: women's networks, ATPC committees, relays, AVEC, APS, school governments, teachers and local and administrative authorities (sub-prefects, elected officials, technical services) to ensure a coherent implementation.

CASADES has worked to address the particular needs of the Kolda and Sédhiou regions through the implementation of the ATPC to support actions to improve the quality of life in the targeted areas and which take into account the issue of gender equality, among other things through the implementation of innovative financing approaches. Thus the expertise of CASADES and its local partners such as the very dynamic women's networks (RSA, COFEPAD, MINEN KALAA), composed of 173 groups with credit lines for economic activities but which do not integrate EHA issues. In these regions where women have market gardening blocks, plots for rice cultivation, production, processing and marketing units for local products could serve as a lever for the valorisation of sanitation by-products (compost), agricultural insurance etc.
