UNHCR project

Project completed

Setting up 2 DataCups in the refugee camps of Diffa and Tillabéri was our first DataCup project.

This project, initiated by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), aimed to provide culturally adapted information resources and cultural activities to enable refugees to learn about their roots and culture, with 3 constraints:

- no internet connection

- unstable electricity supply

- lack of local IT skills

The DataCup has been specially adapted to the harsh climatic conditions of the Diffa region. It is equipped with a fan and a cooling system to keep the device cool in extreme heat, and an automatic shutdown device in the event of overheating. It has also been housed in a specially designed protective case to prevent damage from sand and strong winds.

The DataCup enabled children born in refugee camps to see images of their homeland for the first time.

"As a high school student, it helped me cultivate my knowledge. For example, some of the books and documentaries available on the UNHCR Box have helped me to research and broaden my understanding of different topics. It's wonderful to discover and learn new things that we didn't know before" Yagana Madou, Nigerian refugee.

This project has helped more than 250,000 refugees to become better educated and more entertained.
